I visited a Rituals shop the other day and was drawn towards the candle section like a bee is drawn to flowers. (Seriously, husband needs to drag me away at times from any Byredo counter or Jo Malone shop, I’d stay there all day otherwise ). I smelt quite a few candles from their elaborate selection & ended up picking this candle called under a fig tree.
It’s described to be a purifying scented candle based on the enticing fragrance of Fresh Figs & Copaiba.
I tend to gravitate towards floral scents usually or even warm, heavy woodsy scents. However this is none of those , rather it smells sweet/fruity yet fresh or even mossy, with a woodsy edge. I’ve lit it for a few nights in a row and it’s one of those candles that I’ll like using during both winter and spring. For me, it really elevates my mood and creates that smell that is both cosy yet airy (?). Excuse my scent-describing skills though, lol. Check out www.fashionforlunch.net for some more sophisticated scent/fragrance reviews, if you want to be inspired.
I also purchased 2 other candles, btw, from their private collection called Black Oudh & Holy Basil. Holy basil was surprisingly nice and fresh whereas Black Oudh exudes warmth & character.
Something I really appreciate about all of these candles is that none of them are heady or have that cheap, soapy smell.
It says in the description that the under the fig tree candle (290gr) will burn for 50 hours . I can’t tell because I’m not even halfway through it and haven’t exactly been counting the hours. It does seem to be pretty long-lasting though. The glass it comes in is darkly tinted and has a quote on the back that reads ; A life filled with wonder is a wonderful life. Inspiring stuff.
Next candle by Rituals I’ll be trying is a new one called Oriental Light & perhaps a few more from their private collection. I’ll keep you updated .
How about you? Any candles you’re trying & loving at the moment?
