I purchased Gucci’s Silk Primer Serum a few months ago and found it be good but not impressive. Fast forward a few months later and I am loving this primer. Whether it is because of the changing seasons or simply because it’s not too hot outside to notice , I don’t know. All I know is that this priming serum has made my Combination Skin – a combination of slightly oily, slightly dry but mostly normal skin – behave whether I’m wearing a fluid foundation or BB cream or TM or whatever I decide to layer on top as a base.
It mattifies where needed and keeps the drier areas calm. Of course, this does not qualify as skincare rather it’s just an added step prior to your usual base makeup ( so don’t skip your usual pre-makeup skincare routine ) . When applied before foundation, this gem makes everything blend seamlessly and keeps your skin feeling supple rather than tacky or icky like so many silicone-based primers can do. I also noticed it significantly prolonging makeup wear. No touch ups needed till late in the afternoon.
Apparently the difference lies in the ingredients ( what doesn’t ). They’ve formulated in a way that it is the perfect combination of conditioning agents & blurring ingredients ( meaning; pores & lines be gone ! ). On me it doesn’t really blur all that much, I don’t have lines (yet!) but I usually like to have my pores’s appearance slightly diminished. This does just that , it slightly diminishes the appearance of pores which doesn’t = blurring pores.
So to recap.
What’s to love about Gucci Silk Priming Serum
- the moisturising + slightly blurring effect
- the enhanced base makeup application
- prolongs makeupwear
- the fast absorption
- the glow it seems to add to skin
- beautiful + luxurious packaging
What’s not to love about Gucci Silk Priming Serum
- doesn’t blur pore/lines the way it advertises. Only slight blurring action noticeable
- not as easy to find. Only select shops sell it + the Gucci shops
- the price is a little bit crazy ; $49. ouch
Who’s it for ?
Anyone with normal, slightly dry or slightly oily skin – or a combination of the aforementioned. Anyone with very oily or very dry skin may want to find a more suitable primer. Also, if you’re on a budget you may want to look elsewhere . Smashbox does some amazing primers for far less money.
How about you? Any unexpected makeup / skincare you’ve grown to love?
On another note – how have you all been ? I’ve been procrastinating getting back to blogging for months. I’ve mainly been busy redecorating, studying, travelling. Also, taking care of a toddler is no easy feat, no matter how early you have one. People used to tell me that you should have kids early on so you have energy to keep up with them. I’m 25 as of last sunday and I’ll tell you this , it’s not true! lol. Right, well,I’m back to blogging and I can’t wait to catch up on all the posts I’ve missed here on wordpress.
A bientôt !
